The new version of our hack has been released. For ROTMG release 2.0 a few adjustments had to be made. The hack is still working problem free and duping is still possible at a high success rate using our hacked client. Realm of the Mad God Hacked Clients This is the most common kind of Cheat used in ROTMG. It is called a 'hacked client', because the hacker changes the way the game client (the.swf file) processes the input from the user or the input form the server into the client.
I played this for 1 year or so, and I remember when Amulets of Resurrection were worth more than 1 Potion of Life. But everything changed, when the Kabam Nation attacked. They began making updates after updates, planning to stop the duping and scamming in the game. The other day, they are selling equipment for ridiculously expensive amounts of Realm Gold. And the item shop website spamming HASN'T stopped. Today, I go on it cause a friend tell me, 'kabam is now selling wc tops on nexus'. I look at it.
They are selling Tier 8 to 13 items, players are duping others' items for free, and 80% of my chatbox is full of 'ROTMGPROSHOP NOW ONLINE 24/7 15% OFF SEE AT STORE'. I haven't played Ace of Spades, but by the looks of it, this is turning out to be just like it: An indie game bought by a bankrupt company, which tricks us with fake updates just to add more uses for Gold; which means less money in our credit cards. Think about it: If a newbie player just joins the game with a credit card and sees that, what will you think that will happen?
Simple: A 0-star Level 1 Wizard with guest name using T13 items and beasting the REAL players, who earned their items from their bloody battles with Gods. Do NOT play this game in it's current state: It'll only drive you crazy with newbie players blasting your face, extreme amounts of scammers/spammers, and Kabam EATING players' money. If all this never happened, we'd still be a happy society in a game by Wild Shadow Studios without new players using 'WC Tops', or, the highest tier items. Only real players can have the rights to use these, and now. Everyone can, as long as they have enough money to throw away.Kabam, you make me very sad and disappointed. Words from a player who never got a T12 - T13 item by himself, but still loved the game and knows how most of the players feel after the Kabam revolution.
A good amount of the older metagame was the risk:reward factor. There was real effort and scare gone in to organizing Wine Cellar runs, and teaming up with guilds for events. Because of the nature of Permadeath (and the costly one-time use amulet), the best gear was worn by those with skill, and the lower level to those who couldn't afford the 10x cost. Players die, items disappear, and this kept this virtual value of items up for quite a while (anyone remember $150 amulets?). As multiboxing became popular, prices went down, amulets descended to sub $50, and then the real issue arised: Duping.
And oh boy did that ever suck. I took a break from ROTMG for a good period of time since it got bought out (f. Kabam) and came back to visit it. Top tier items for Gold? Instant purchase potions? ROTMG shops still spam incessantly in the Nexus as though all that Kabam has done is add a money sink that profits them directly.
And that is only the beginning of the issues. I'm not happy with how the game has turned out at all, and it used to be a little indie game that was raved by the hardcore players, and revered by the beginners. And now, it seems they've taken the risk out of the reward. What is there left for you to do when you can buy all you need for a few defence potions, and when difficult events aren't worth doing? Without a goal to fight for, you have the uninspired shell of a videogame that could've been much, much more.
A point on the 'bots are gone' note. As soon as trading comes back (if it comes back, I'm wondering now), they will return. Part of the issue that players on this (and RotMG's) forum is that Kabam is making changes to the 'game culture' of RotMG. Kabam is known for creating games that people play a ton at first (and spend money) then lose interest and move to another game, which is why MGM/UA gave them such a big bit of venture capital back in November.to make more games like that for movies (like the Hobbit).
Wildshadow had a business model of getting around 40k players or so, keeping them, and moving forward with that base and slowly building. It's not a huge profit model, but a strong long-term one. If you look at some of Kabam's other games (Dragons of Atlantis comes to mind), there is initial interest when they open a new server/realm then it dries up after a couple of months. Long-term play is discouraged by forcing you to make a new account on the new realm if you want to go where the players are at (important if you are in a PvP game). The problem here is that you can see numbers of 'older' players dropping over the past few months, and overall numbers plummetting with the 'soulbound' fix. My thought here is that the 'get money and move on' model is wasting a strong fan base that Wildshadow built up after only a year or so of creating a GREAT game. If someone doesn't agree with the way a company is treating their customers, it's not about 'hating' the company, it's about caring enough about the product that you wish to voice your opinion.
A friend of mine pointed something out to me about the game a few days ago. I told him about what had happened and he compared the 'old players' to the way that EVE online built up their community. In regards to the sudden wave of duping/spambots/stealbots, he said that this was common with 'p2w' models - if there is a buck to be made fast, you are going to get the hackers/cheats that come with a higher traffic/more $$ model. It's a given.which is why I'm pretty shocked that Kabam doesn't have a 'in a box' solution for this. This problem isn't isolated to RotMG, and isn't the first game that they have worked on.
So the next question is WHY is it taking so long to fix? The answer may be that this game is different than the other ones they run.free trade isn't common in their games; only 'gifts' which have to go through their server and have to be bought with purchased gold.so the next step may be 'changing' the way trades are done to that model.
Let's hope that I am wrong, the trade aspect of this game is quite an attraction. You bumped this thread just to make an asinine comment about Pokemon. Anyhow, about the 'old players who helped build this game', most of those older players that have left the game were RMT merchants themselves. To their credit, they didn't use bots to make sales. But they were still trying to make a buck for themselves off of WildShadow's product. If WS had any business sense, they would have put a stop to it long ago. But WS had NO business sense at all.
It was this lack of sense that gave the game its original charm, but it's also what led to them being forced to sell to Kabam. They didn't intend to make this a popular game, they just wanted to win a contest. Things blew up from there, so they hired a consultant(spryfox) who made minor improvements, but wasn't willing to shake things up enough.
The old RMT community are the bulk of the ones who left the game. And good riddance to all of them. Many of them used hacked clients, every exploit they could find, and they loved their duped amulets. Many of the guilds that are still in the top 50 were full of these sleazeballs. You are idolizing people who only wanted to ruin the game for their own benefit. As soon as Diablo 3 came out, some of them left the game in pursuit of bigger cash cows. That was before Kabam bought it.
Kabam has made some mistakes, for sure. But they've also tried to return this game to the original roots. WS originally made a game without trading. So for all the love you guys throw at them, you couldn't handle the game they actually invented. Kabam may be leeching as much as they can off of this game, but really they are not the ones who ruined it in the first place. That fault lies entirely on the community of selfish merchants that you all worship so much. Kabam shouldn't have made RWT 'illegal' it was probably just a plot to let them sell tops in the nexus.
When you sell your things that are in-game it means that your losing interest in the game, or you feel that you've become overloaded with things and you want to gain anotehr thing in another game, perfectly logical. What are you going to do when you quit? Leave your character and items to rust? No your going to sell it, let someone else have a good go and find excitement where you can't. ROTMG is essentially a grinding game, and all grinding game sell items because it makes for less grinding and more playing, which is good in a sense.
Selling tops in the nexus doesn't harm the game, people who buy from there are DEFINATELY bad at the game, you can follow them around and i bet they will die within the day. When you sell items when your still playing its good as well, both the customer and the seller are both happy as they both are getting a good deal and not getting scammed, what their doing is not duping or whatever, its the normal for any game. Every game has RWT, because people don't want to grind for hours on end, and perma death liek rotmg makes it more like that, intermediate players who have things in another game or paypal rely on maxing to get better, and if they cant play 24/7 it will take weeks to max, and many deaths in the process. You may say its part of the game, and people who buy/sell have no lifes, but its the opposite, people who grind for hours spend too much time, when i buy things its because i dont have time to do it myself, because i could max in a couple days, but it would be wearisome, just buy a couple things and max, then i can play properly and have fun on the game while maxing anotehr character, so i buy pots etc just to start off the process of 'maxing'.
